MAKING LEGENDS LOCAL – A NIGHT at the OSCARS

Friday, April 18, 2008 will mark the 5th anniversary for a stage production self produced by the board of directors of The Carousel Center for Abused Children.

For three of the past four years, this extravaganza has had the same basic format but has exciting different twists and themes every year.  The basic premise is for local people to perform and take on the persona of famous performers of stage, screen, and the music world.  Performances are lip synced to the original artist’ rendition.  For the 2007 show the theme was “Making Legends Local – with Classic TV” – using characters and theme songs from well known shows or performers who appeared on Ed Sullivan or Johnny Carson Shows for instance.  (Even Ed Sullivan and Johnny Carson were portrayed by local people).

This year from the title you can surmise that the music will be based on people and music from well known movies, with some Broadway and other performances thrown in (hence the “ETC.) Perhaps the audience will see people such their doctor, lawyer, attorney, public officials, next door neighbor, fireman or family member.  They may be on stage as Ethel Merman, Julie Andrews, Carol Channing, Joan Rivers, John Trivolta, Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond or groups such as The BeeGees, just to name a few.  Music from South Pacific, Mary Poppins, Fame, Titanic, Rocky, Annie, Grease, and many more will be featured like you have never seen them featured before!

The show held at Wilmington’s historic Thalian Hall, is preceded by a Red Carpet Reception held on the second floor of the theatre.  Tickets purchased for the reception include prime seating for the show ($100 per).  The reception features live entertainment and a fabulous smorgasbord of food donated by 20 restaurants and caterers. These tickets are limited and reservations may be made by calling The Carousel Center – 254-9898. Confirmation of reservations are made on first come-first served receipt of checks. Tickets for the show alone (not including reception) are available at Thalian Hall Box Office ($50 or (limited) $25).
